IMS (Intermural Sports)
Being in Rigg-Rut already gives you the upper hand over the many other thousands of students here at Loughborough, as you are living in the best hall on campus! However, to rub it in a bit further, we like to beat them all at sport as well ;)
This is where IMS comes in. IMS is (Intramural Sport), a contest between all halls, competing in many sports over the year to determine which hall comes away at the end of the year as IMS Champions. Rigg-Rut men compete in a number of weekly sports (Football, Rugby, Hockey, Basketball), the one day events such as (Swimming, Athletics, Cricket and Golf) and then the more obscure sports as (Pool, Darts, Table Tennis and Water Polo) all of which are a great laugh to take part in.
Female IMS is all about getting everyone involved and working as a team! Everyone wants their hall to win so it can get competitive, but it such a laugh at the same time and is great to see the small but mighty Rigg Rut compete against (and beat) halls double our size. We have weekly fixtures for Netball, Hockey, Basketball, Squash(champions this year!), Tag Rugby and Rounders. Then day events for Athletics, Swimming, Water polo, Rugby 7s, Table Tennis, Indoor Hockey, 5 a side Football, Darts, Pool and Golf. Hazlerigg Rutland is your new home and the more you get involved, the better the experience you will take away with you!
Rigg-Rut mixed sport involves the sports where both men and women play together side by side. This involves regular fixtures in sports such as tennis, badminton and volleyball. However most of the fixtures are one day events, including; archery, canoeing, bowling and even Rock it ball! Mixed sport and sport on the whole is very enjoyable in Rigg-Rut as we have a strong bond between members in hall, a bond which other halls cannot replicate due to their mass numbers. When you wear that Rigg-Rut IMS shirt you do not only play for your hall, you play for your friends and family around you! That’s what Hazlerigg-Rutland hall is all about!
We like to have fun playing IMS, as can be seen in the pictures of our last Football game against Rutherford, but there is also a serious side to it! We want to win! We urge anyone and everyone to get involved! You don’t need to have played at a high standard before uni, all you need is a desire to win and be up for having a laugh!
Not only does IMS give you the chance to get involved in lots of sporting activities at Loughborough, it gives you the chance to meet lots of new people, make new friends, keep active, and most of all, have the satisfaction of walking off the pitch having put one over on your greatest rivals. As you’ll soon realise, banter between halls is a big part of uni life and beating them at sport is one of the most satisfying ways of gaining the upper hand!
So, whether you played for county at Rugby, Sunday League Football, or even just had a few games of Darts/Pool down the Dog & Duck, then Rigg Rut IMS is for you! Get stuck in! |
