Action Food Drive

This December the Loughborough Students’ Union Action team announced their annual competition of a food drive between the halls. Carly and I wanted Rigg-Rut Action to make an impact with how many donations we could get, despite our small size. We went round every single flat and door knocked on people’s rooms until our trolley was full. Not only did we collect non-perishable food items, but also old clothes, spare change and pet food as well! In addition to the donations, we had to make a creative submission as part of our entry. So this year we decided to film a Christmassy video based on the mannequin challenge and the Mean Girls’ jingle bell rock dance routine – which just so happens to also show off our treasurer Liam’s and social sec Jez’s incredible dance skills.

Winter Ball 2016

Winter ball is highly regarded as one of the best events in the Rigg-Rut calendar year, and Winter Ball 2016 didn’t disappoint.

The City Rooms in Leicester had the privilege this year to host 160 of Rigg-Rut’s sharpest dressed students. After a drink on arrival and one or two hundred photos, people made their way to the main room for an exquisite Christmas dinner. This delightful meal was shortly followed by a Taking of the Wine, which was certain to get the drinks flowing and didn’t fail to raise a few eyebrows and leave some questions needing to be asked later on. As the night got into full swing, the high heels came off and the dance floor filled as everyone relaxed and the DJ finally got to play his part.

One final hall photo in the venue and it was off to Firefly for a usual messy Monday night.

New Committee High Table

The recent December high table welcoming new committee was also important for another reason. We welcomed many alumni to this evening of food and drink. This included former hall chairs social secretaries, and even the Chairman of Derby cricket club! This was as well as the usual favourites (George Hones, Jack Needham and 'Welshy')
